Update on Digital Medicines First of Type Scheme

We received more than 150 expressions of interest from NHS trusts for our Digital Medicines First of Type Scheme. We know that many technology suppliers contributed to these applications and we are grateful for your support.

We have shortlisted about 60 trusts and sent them a form asking for further information. We wanted to make you aware as we recognise that trusts are likely to reach out again for your support to complete this further request for information.

The form will ask for:

  • confirmation of the deliverables that can be realistically achieved by March 2024 – and clarity on the technical standards and/or specifications that will underpin the technical capability/functionality
  • confirmation of the funding required including an understanding of how this will be spent
  • information about the onwards value to the wider NHS, recognising that this is a first of type scheme focused on delivering technical capability/functionality that is intended to be available for use by other NHS organisations

This information will help us select the final set of applications to be supported by the funding available for this financial year (2023/24). Trusts will have until 12:30pm on 29 November to submit this form. We intend to confirm the successful applications by 5 December.

Our intention is that the successful applications represent a wide range of system supplier partners. This is to ensure we make the process as equitable as possible, to distribute the effort between now and the end of March 2024, and to ensure the greatest impact for the wider NHS.
